The main founder of the Czech Pub is Subin Thakuri. How did Subin become a „publican“?

In 2000, at the age of 15, he left his native Sindhupalchok and went to the capital Kathmandu, in the hope that he would continue his education and find a job. As a village boy with $ 15 in his pocket, without knowledge of english and without any support, he found himself in the capital. He spent the first few months in the slums, later working in a carpet factory until he was employed by a trekking travel agency as a porter. He worked hard and from porter he moved up and became a mountain guide. Thanks of his experiences he was able to found his own travel agency the Utmost Adventure in 2018 and led many expeditions, including the one to the world’s highest peak Mt. Everest which he himself summited.

Due to his history and difficult beginnings he spends a lot of time raising funds for socio-economic development projects in nepal countryside.

In 2015, fate brought him together with Honza „Tráva“ Trávníček and Miri Jirková, well known travelers and climbers from the Czech Republic. Since then, they have been working intensively to organize treks for Czech groups of friends and have prepared many expeditions together, including ascents to Cho-Oyu, Manaslu, Ama Dablam and Makalu. In 2019, another friend Bohumil Koča joined the mentioned trio and the idea of founding a Czech pub in Kathmandu arose. Subin soon found a suitable place. This was followed by an extensive renovation of a three-storey house in the center of Thamel, creating a fantastic space where you can relax indoors or on the outdoor sun terrace.

And the success of renovation and creation of this magical place you can evaluate by yourself…

You can order excellent traditional Nepalese food or taste some Czech cuisine. The menu also includes draught beer, although for the time being only Nepali beer. Hopefully soon (as soon as the Nepalese government lifts the import restrictions) we will deliver the Czech beer, which is ready for transport.
